Perdue claims Sonny Perdue is Bought and Paid For!

During the 2002 Campaign Sonny Perdue claimed that his opponent was the candidate of the "fat cats." He claimed that Roy Barnes was getting the big check contributions and Sonny was the candidate of the average person.

Well take a look at what happened, just AFTER the 2002 election. From then until December 31 (less than 60 days) Sonny seems to have undergone some kind of transformation.

Here is a list of checks he received in that 60 days which were over $4,000 (from his campaign finance report for December 31, 2002 - public record):

Now based upon our count that is 207 checks for $4,000.00 or more and a total of $1,025,175.00.

Under any circumstances this is a lot of major contributions to a campaign "after" the election. Especially the many $5,000.00 contributions to the "primary" election which was many months prior to the delivery of the check. Even a rocket scientist assistant might think that some of these contributions were not associated with the just ended "campaign."

By using the definition established by Sonny Perdue himself - within 60 days of being elected governor - Sonny Perdue was:

"The average Georgian can't sit down and write a $5,000.00 check to a political campaign," said Perdue Campaign Manager Scott Rials. "It makes you wonder about two things: which Georgians does Barnes [Perdue] really represent and what are these fat cats getting for their money?"

Continuing to use Sonny Perdue's own campaign words to look at his first 60 days after the election:

"Roy Barnes [Sonny Perdue] has been bought and paid for by big business interests, lobbyists and holders of state contracts," Rials said. "These are smart businessmen, they don't just throw away thousands of dollars. They expect something in return and Roy Barnes [Sonny Perdue] has obviously told them - with a wink and a nod maybe - that they'll get it."

But Sonny was on a roll. From January 1, 2003 until the Legislature opened here is the list of checks he received for $4,000.00 or more (from campaign finance report filed June 30, 2003 - public record):

Once again using the words of his own campaign to review his own contributions. What they said about Barnes is just as true for Perdue!

"These are smart businessmen, they don't just throw away thousands of dollars. They expect something in return and Roy Barnes [Sonny Perdue] has obviously told them - with a wink and a nod maybe - that they'll get it."

Is this what you voted for? While campaigning for your vote, Sonny was quick to criticize Roy Barnes for his ties to special interests. But here is what the top special interest in our whole State - The Metro Atlanta Chamber had to say about Sonny Perdue:

"The Metro Atlanta Chamber won about three-fourths of its agenda, most critically the flag. Given a new Governor and new legislative leadership, this was a great achievement."

Those are the Chamber's own words, when he wanted your vote Sonny said:

"These are smart businessmen, they don't just throw away thousands of dollars."
